Some people know him best for his role in Casablanca. Other people are more fond of him in The Maltese Falcon. I suspect that few people nowadays know that Mr. Bogart made his acting debut on Broadway, and even fewer people know that he attended the Phillips preparatory school in Andover - which I'm sure I would have attended had I not grown up in New Jersey. It was most likely his being expelled from the Phillips Academy that ultimately led to his acting career - from going into the navy to finding his family's fortune vastly no longer existent, he went from one job to another until he became a stage manager. Being a stage manager got him his first acting role - and the rest is history.$1.00
