Daily One Inch Button - Sake!

Sit down with a friend or two and talk over a cup of sake. It's not quite the same feeling as chugging down a beer while watching American football at the bar, is it? If you are a fan of silly commercials, check out this sake commercial. It is sure to get you into peals of laughter.

This adorable sake button should also put a big smile on your face. If it hasn't done so yet, just try looking at it for a little bit longer.

Daily One Inch Button - Shaved Ice Kakigori

Sometimes when you are in the mood for a cold dessert food, ice cream just won't do it. No, you want something made out of shaved ice, perhaps something that has been sweetened. The good news is that you can find your sweet treat in the form of kakigori, or Japanese sweetened shaved ice. Though sometimes electric machines are used to shave the ice needed for kakigori, in the summer you can find street vendors all over Japan manually shaving big blocks of ice. Kakigori is sometimes served in coffee shops with bean paste and ice cream. Makes me want to have some right now.

Daily One Inch Button - Miso Soup

You know that one commercial where the snowman kid comes home and he's obviously really cold, and his mother serves up a big piping hot bowl of soup? (Where is the father in this picture? Just wondering.) How much more satisfied would the boy have been post melting had the soup been a nice hearty miso instead of the store bought made from condensed full of preservatives soup that the mother chose to make? How much healthier would that former snow boy be? I'll tell you right now that he would be one healthy child. Treat yourself (and your snow children) to some hearty miso soup today.

Daily One Inch Button - The Kappa

According to Japanese folklore, the Kappa is a sort of river imp that lives in rivers where it awaits potential victims of their pranks. They are remarkably polite, however, and apparently will bow back to you if you bow first. This politeness puts them in peril as they need the water that sits atop their head to sustain good health and often bowing will pour out this water. They can be quite helpful to people once they are befriended.
